WHAT THIS FILM DOES WELL: It really gives that ride along feeling as if you are watching all that is happening unfold in the backseat or sitting nearby in the hotel room. It's gritty, real, and very natural. That being said it is filmed very well, not a ton of shakiness, very well framed, and very well designed. We move from scene to scene, shot to shot with a sense of ease that doesn't distract or take us out of the moment. The character arches are very nice and once Rane Jameson who plays Miles Olsen jumps into the fray, there is a great energy that adds to the narrative at the perfect time to give us a nice refreshing insight and POV. Jennifer Stone is a star on screen and she is really showing a great deal of acting chops, especially in the 3rd act. She plays off other characters and actors so well. Mindy Bledsoe is someone to watch in the directing field. I would not be surprised to see her grow into one of those signature directors that has a unique voice, flare, and style that is admired and talked about in the lexicon of cinema. The hope is Jennifer and Mindy team again and give us more of their incredible chemistry and show us the growth of the two them as a power duo in this business.
WHY YOU NEED TO CHAMPION THIS FILM: You are seeing the genesis of a couple of awesome women in this business at the beginning of what hopefully will grow into, like I already said. a unique voice, flare, and style. I have no doubt after seeing The In Between that they are headed in that direction. This is a cool ride along movie that really takes what has been done before and enhances it and gives it a refreshing paint job. The conversations, the subject matter, the own voices perspectives are really amazing here because they play like real life and real pain, acceptance, and truth. I was blown away about how freeing this film felt and how much it took the chance to be something. Which it most certainly is something, and that something is amazing.
