WHAT THIS MOVIE DOES WELL: Creating tensions centered around 1 static object for the majority of a 90 minute film is a tough sell for any movie, Goodbye Honey does it better than most. It starts with the chemistry and intrigue, created simultaneously, by 2 actors at a high level of their craft. Juliette and Pamela do an incredible job of making you not know what is what or moreover what to believe is what. They do that through mostly their sole interactions. There is some great camera work done in tight spaces and in vast ones, both with an approach that also helps create movement and tension done by Todd Rawiszer. The sharp cuts in this film also provide good movement to ratchet things up more. Paul Kelly injects a nice flavor into the movie at a crucial moment and the stark reveals do a great job bringing everything together.
WHY YOU NEED TO CHAMPION THIS MOVIE: Movies like this are often panned as that "Indie thing" but Goodbye Honey is more than that. Goodbye Honey is a well acted, well shot, and well edited enigma that could have set it laurels on convention and trope but instead uses it to play with the viewer and create a sense that we are in this with these two women. Pamela Jayne Morgan is anchoring this film with a craftmanship that is both real, stark, and engaging and Juliette Alice Goblin shows she is going to be something to see in years to come on a big screen. We need to stop shying away from films that make us feel something we may not like to feel because the message and execution have merit and value in the end and you are rewarded as a viewwer for sticking around even in parts where the static does come in.
