RHYMES FROM THE WICKED NURSERY

WRITTEN BY J. D. ESTRADA

GENRE: POETRY

PUBLISHED AUGUST 13TH, 2021

BLURB: Rhymes from the Wicked Nursery is a poetry collection full of verses that will definitely not go gently into the night. So tuck in, keep a night light handy, and read at your own risk.

This is JD Estrada's 18th release. He really hopes it keeps you up at night while feeling bad at the things that make you giggle.

WHAT THIS BOOK DOES WELL: It is incredibly apparent right from the first stanza of "Scissors" that we are getting not just the cleverness that comes from a JD Estrada collection but we are getting the cheekiness that has been present in some previous works like Black Tie Affair and his Fantasy Fiction of Only Human and Shadow of a Human. As we go along with poems like "Cyanide" and "Tombstone" we are getting a darker slant than we normally would get from Mr. Estrada as well.

The incredible thing about this collection is it is so well designed. While each nursery rhyme in totality and then even intricately within each stanza there's a subtle progression to an overall arching story that plays like if the Grimm Brothers played around with a Dr. Seuss concept. Even when we switch from light heartened to heavy-handed to cheeky dark to really dark the poems develop a rhythm that makes this book so easy to rip right through and yet still have enough of an aftertaste that you almost go back to the previous, previous poem. The, "Take 1 step forward, 2 steps back" idea.

WHY DO YOU NEED TO CHAMPION THIS: If you are a fan of prose and poetry, and especially if you know JD (and you all should he is an awesome Indie) yeah you are going to find something in this author's 7th poetry offering that you will love and hopefully it gets you curious about those other 6 books too. I think ultimately though no matter if this is your 1st, 2nd, or 7th JD Estrada experience what you are going to find is a lot of these poems will stick to the deeper synapsis of your mind like a good song does. You will find yourself going backwards a lot in this book and that's okay because that's its great design. I also think it will be a fun adventure (I know that's ironic to say this when this is actually a bit darker for a poetry collection especially from this author) to try find the rhythm and hidden story within the story. It's there if you want to be and if you don't and just want to enjoy just certain poems or certain clusters of the darker stuff or cheekier stuff, well that's the beauty of it. Then guess what? You just became a poetry lover because good poetry does just that. "Rhymes from the Wicked Poetry" is that and so much more.
