WHAT THIS FILM DOES WELL:
Hate to start with the obvious but when you got guys who have 20+ years and more film credits than can fill 1 page on a resume in Stunt Coordination and Stunt work with you got to mention how incredible these fights scenes were.  Moreover the way in which they are filmed, framed, choreographed all speak volumes in what makes this film so compelling and so enriching for an audience. Some of the purest and coolest motions and movements I have seen in a film, let alone in an Indie film. Then you add in the powerhouse talents of a Bruce Dern, Nicholas Turturro and Robert Miano and you have these moments of amazing storytelling that are worth the price of admission alone. This is where Omid Zader really shows he is much more than a stunt guy too. Not only does he hold his own in those thespian like moments (I know an action movie having Thespian moments? Wait for it)  but he elevates himself and his character with each interaction. As the movie goes on, Omid just radiates off the screen and feels like the proper and most reliable narrator you can have. He also establishes Marcus as a character you could see in several sequels and by the middle  you are almost are begging to do so. This film sprinkles so much different films into it but then finds its own way through that and creates an incredibly enjoyable, easy watchable, kick ass film. There is so much really good here in the acting, the action, the caper, the thriller/chase it is hard pressed not to find a spot that you might gravitate toward if you are a fan of these types of films. Josh Tessier really does well to bring all the elements together as the director but his smartest choice was to lean on Omid to be his focal point. Josh has a real feel for how these movies should play out too. You can see this in the dialogue, the cuts, and in the way it goes from Act 1 to Act 2 and into Act 3 while almost always shifting the tone or changing the movie that the homage or apt comparison highlights and yet we are still there with it, never really lost once we are introduced to everyone and as other characters also come into the fold. That's a good director who knows his voice and is confident his choices.

WHY CHAMPION THIS MOVIE: Look usually films done in an Indie manner do these types of films in 2 ways: cheesy by accident or cheesy on purpose. The focus on story is rarely there and if it is, its not done well or butchered by the acting or over writing. Overrun is not that. Overrun is a franchise building, really well thought out story, that has some of the most fun and well produced innovations in fight scenes there has been, especially in an Indie film. This film proves that these movies can be kick ass, smart, and well done Indies all in one film. This is also a personal call from this reviewer to champion this film because we need to get Josh and Omid to keep creating these Marcus Lombardi movies and really make this is an Indie Franchise that the Indie world has been sorely lacking.
