4th ALBUM FROM THE FAITHFUL SIDEKICKS

(FOLK ROCK/COMEDY)

RELEASED : AUGUST 29, 2021

ALBUM CONCEPT: A collection of geeky comedic "commercials" and songs about fan-ish products.

WHAT THIS ALBUM DOES WELL: It's nearly but 30 seconds into the opener "Eagle Air" that you get a sense of the upgrade in The Faithful Sidekicks production value from the previous releases. "Our Kind of Strange"  their last album had hints of this but you get the sense that Eric and Jen were still playing with the sounds of a new studio. Now that being said there is a lot of what makes The Faithful Sidekicks, the Faithful sidekicks here, in fact maybe even more so. Going way back to even a "Han Solo for President" vibe in the lyrics and melodies. That's the really super impressive thing about this album. The Faithful Sidekicks know who they are and they haven't strayed from that, lyrically, harmonically, and arrangement wise as well. They have just become better musicians and have a better engineered sound to go with it. Its nice when a band who has always stuck the landing does a couple extra flips on their way there. Perhaps the best 2 examples of this are my 2 favorite tracks on the album. Frist there's "Iocaine" which is a well put together, catchy chorus tune. Its lyrics are smart and its chorus is also so well layered with back vocals and bridge chords.  Then there's the song "The Biggest Board Game" which really tows the line of the best of both worlds of the Sidekicks. It is very much an anthem like typical popular Sidekick's songs but there is just something about the arrangement that feels crisper and more well defined. There is also a great not so subtle overture to the interlude, using spoken word (very well recorded spoken word) and quicker gimmicky stanzas. Then add to the concept the sense that this is covering all different styles of commercials. So some feel like radio ads, some TV commercials, and some infomercials. Again, so smart, so catchy, and it should leave you smiling. The Sidekicks writing has always been one of the smartest of bands in the room and in this space of folk comedy and deep referencing, observational humor in song but this seemingly next level in their musicianship really puts a cherry on The Faithful Sidekicks Sundae. The references are too vast to count and off the charts but the subtle nods to personal loves in songs like "My Cabbages" and "Biggest Board Game" show off why this band is fantastic and so grounded and rooted well.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHAMPION THIS ALBUM AND BAND: The choruses are catchy, the music is just fun and well arranged, and when you start to see how much they have grown when sampling the discography (and we really hope you do that) you come to appreciate their passion, their intelligence, their musicianship, and how much respect they have for craft as well as Nerd Culture and Comedy. All that alone would lead you to want to champion The Faithful Sidekicks but it is also the simple fact that they are in the right place at the right time. You feel like these are YOUR anthems for a Geekdom and Fandom everywhere and they are done with a respect and yet still tongue and cheekiness that would endear a fan from any corner of a Comic Con.
