BY JIM JACKSON

4th ALBUM FROM JIM JACKSON (ALONG WITH A FEW OTHER SINGLES RELEASED)

(BLUES/ACID ROCK/INDIE ALT)

ALBUM CONCEPT:
A soundtrack for a novel of the same name to be released by Jim Jackson sometime in Oct/Nov.

WHAT THIS ALBUM DOES WELL: What you come to appreciate from a Jim Jackson ditty and subsequently an album is the mere fact that this guy knows cool, he knows composition, and he knows how to toe the line between fun and the let loose concepts that are musically impeccable. He also knows how to blend his songs with all types of influential genres while staying unique in his own right. This album is no exception, right from the jump we get this Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies vibe, instrumental, Superhero Blues that really is a wall banger.   Okay in all honesty the 2nd song Captain Blue, Psychedelic Commando is a bit much and not exactly in my wheelhouse and I will probably skip it every time in the rotation but it has merits for those who might be into that kind of showtune, Mommas & Poppas-weird 60's TV Theme vibe. As the album goes along I really start to get sucked in though and start feeling this strong Modest Mouse meets The Beatles vibe; which of course I dig. There is also subtle blues riffs and even a rockabilly riff or two mixed in to a couple tunes that really hum. The album closes with May All Your Blues Be Groovy which really has this Bob Dylan-esque edge.

WHY YOU SHOULD CHAMPION THIS ALBUM AND BAND: All in all this is an album that you can create to and enjoy as it gets stuck in your head. Jim Jackson is a modern day 1960's Historian and innovator the way he moves around several genres with utter ease and just perfect timing. Jim knows how to command an audience and that is what I think a lot of Indies miss. The tributes and comparisons are always there for Indies and I think sometimes to skirt their indie-ness to a fault that sounds like imitation. Jim is not that, has never been that. Sure you can hear his influences, you make comparisons but the funny thing about all that is its not just this song is or sounds like this, he blends so many into just one song that you get an album that is bound to be sprinkled with something you would like or know. That's how to do it.

IF YOU LIKE THIS YOU MIGHT LIKE CAPTAIN BLUE & QUEEN BEE: Mommas & The Pappas, The Beatles White Album, Modest Mouse, Syd & Nancy Kroft Cartoons from the 70's, and Alice in Chains' Jar of Flies.
