WHAT THIS ALBUM DOES WELL:
I am not sure I have heard an album more atmospheric and intelligent than Bloodless this year. If we all were around a camp fire out in Joshua Tree, or some desert, or high plains amongst Mountain Ranges, dried up or even flourishing creek beds, Cactus, and/or barren trees this would be our Soundtrack. It's moody, fierce, and just so well written and well put together you are immediately captured like a snake slithering to its prey and you can't move. Believe me when I tell you, it will most definitely bite you. If the opening self titled track, "Bloodless" doesn't just mesmerize you, give it a couple tracks. In fact "Snakes for Angels", my favorite song on the album, is one of those iconic Americana ballads that just grabs you and squeezes you till your dead. Claire Cronin may be one of the best lyricists I have ever listened too. Seriously this album is smart but also it's existential while being thrust into a near out of body experience. I mean you get this sense that you are deep in this valley and Claire stands on top of a rock high above you with a guitar and her voice as she uses both to pierce right through your soul. The tone adds so much ambiance that when you get to a more "upbeat" song like "To Ferry Across" you feel that you are on this epic, soul searching journey. It is so cinematic and layered with the echoes and gruff textured sultriness of Claire's voice that it leaves you almost shuddering at times. It's brilliant in its approach, and while a couple songs (for lack of a better term) "bleed" into and sound a little like one another, if you take this album on from start to finish you will get what you came for.

WHY YOU NEED TO CHAMPION THIS ALBUM: I am not sure I have heard anything like this album. Sure there are some comparisons you can make and create an amalgamation of something that might come close but uniqueness is such a rare gift, especially in music, and Claire needs to be not only appreciated for that but celebrated. This is well crafted and I think for artists out there looking for something that might spark creativity this might be the perfect album to just let play in the background and see where your mind and fingers take you as you type.
