WELCOME TO THE SHOW
(DRAMA, COMEDY, MYSTERY)WRITTEN & DIRECTED BY DORIE BARTON
STARRING: RICHARD FOLLIN, DILLON DOUGLASSON, KEEGAN GARANT, AND CHRISTOPER MARTIN
SYNOPSIS: An invitation to a mysterious theatre piece, "The Show," sends four best friends down a rabbit hole of mistrust and madness as they try to figure out who are the actors, who is the audience, who is doing this to them, and why.
WHAT THIS MOVIE DOES WELL: The relationship aspect of this movie is very well established, these 4 guys feeling like they know each other better than each of them knows themselves, really helps move this story forward. The layer of Lynchian mystery and confusion also does a lot to help this film move and keep you engaged. The camera work is steady and often times the choices to go wide or tight on shots work very well, especially in moments where there needs to be a reveal.
WHY YOU SHOULD CHAMPION THIS MOVIE: Movies like this are often cult-like in their following. They are the movie cinephiles point to when the director or an actor blows up onto the mainstream, "Hey you like Dorie Barton movies, have you seen Welcome To The Show?" Like many of the movies we will compare it to below. This movie has that potential so why not get on the ground floor of the swooning while you can and look impressive that you have seen it.
YOU MIGHT LIKE THIS FILM IF YOU LIKED... Following, Midnight Madness, The Game, Memento, and Mulholland Drive
