A poetry of Monsters and of Madness How very delightful

 POETRY OF MONSTERS AND MADNESS

8TH POETRY COLLECTION BY A. F. STEWART

PUBLISHED ON OCTOBER 1ST 2021

BLURB: From the darkness and the shadows
From the lunacy and the void
The words flow on moonlight and mayhem, slithering tentacles along the night. Follow the siren song of myth and monstrosity, the shrieking call of creatures wild and terrifying. Wander down the mind's mania as it leads you past reality into disturbing delusion.

Come read the Poetry of Monsters and Madness.

WHAT THIS COLLECTION DOES WELL: The thing I have always come to appreciate about A. F. Stewart's poetry and with this collection especially is she doesn't mince words. She hits you with great similes, metaphors, and even some ironies with a touch of creepy. Most of these especially in the Monsters Section are nice and quick. The kind of quick that either lingers with you for a moment or makes you become that person, who even though it's dark, creepy, and every sense in your body is telling you to let it be, you want to know more. I also love how this is broken up into sections and while the monsters section kind of reads like you are on an exhibit museum tour of the world's creepiest monsters, the Madness section almost flips you upside down and kind of goes at you from the inside out. I really love Ghosts of Blood and Reality. Maybe two of my favorite poems of the year.  I just love poems that linger beyond just the words, that are almost atmospheric in a way that makes your skin crawl or that feeling of something or someone staring through your eyes into your soul. This is how effective, even in short bursts these verses and prose can be and are. Then there's the Haiku section, which A. F. Stewart has become a maestro of and they are nice palette cleanser.

WHY CHAMPION THIS COLLECTION: I have said it before and I will say it again, Poetry finds you when you least expect it too. These are fun and creepy, but they are interesting brain food too. I think when you see, especially if you are a writer yourself, how well words can be managed I think that can only help. It helps vocabulary-wise, drawing emotions-wise, and how to be creepy wise too. All valuable skillsets A. F. Stewart has mastered and so look at this book as a masterclass in that respect or if you need to be creeped out, this is a cool way to do that too.
