Revenge is a dish best finished as Fallen Revenge

FALLEN REVENGE

(PARANORMAL URBAN FANTASY)

WRITTEN BY JUSTIN BRIMHALL

BLURB: Time and time again, Randy Newborn, chose his badge over his wedding ring, but this time he's gone too far and could cost humanity their very existence.

How far would you go to get revenge? For Randy Newborn, settling a score meant turning his back on his family. Time and time again, he chose his badge—and revenge—over his wedding ring.

His search for answers tugged on the very thread, which had been frayed from the spindle by one of Lucifer’s closest brothers, Gadreel. Decades prior, he orchestrated a meticulous plan along the chessboard of life, using Randy as his most important piece, to wage the final war on Heaven.

Randy, attempting to reclaim what he lost, sets a chain of events in motion ultimately destroying his life along with the lives of the people around him. The carnage he creates takes him to an unlikely place, standing between two angels, with a decision to make. Rise up and learn from his mistakes or fall into the pit of no return?

WHAT THIS BOOK DOES WELL: Maybe one of the best 3rd acts of the year for me, certainly a very nice last 20 pages. All the time you invest in all the subplots and subtexts gets paid off tenfold in this book and that is a skilled storyteller for you. Which Brimhall has all the makings of. He doesn't avoid all the pitfalls of a 1st time author but that's okay because I think what is most unique about an experience and read like this with such a strong 3rd act and a character as flushed, layered, and nuanced as Randy is, you always have that sense you are going to get paid off in the end. The "dueling" storylines give a great setup to what's to come and its a nice device to keep the intrigue flowing. Gadreel is another character you grab a hold of right away because the mischievous foil role adds these subtle contexts that play an interesting "fiddle" if you will. Often times the biggest mistake made in these types of these Angels and Demons in a story are the complexities are wiped away but Brimhall choice to make it a bit more murky and gray while still establishing a demarcation of good and evil is the kind of smart writing that can win an audience over. It's that initial strength that makes this reader excited to see how he sinks his teeth into the next one.

WHY CHAMPION THIS BOOK: This is the start of a story that I think is only going to get more interesting and even more flushed out as we go. I think if you are tired of the trope-y, boring old Angels and Demons this might be your new series to sink your teeth into. Not to mention we are watching a naturally gifted writer blossom and mature and you can see it within the context of this 1 story and glimpses Justin provides with that natural talent are magical and really worth a reader's time to invest in. Stay with this 1st story and I think you just might become a fan by the end and see what I mean.
